The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution “Transforming our World:  the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, with 17 global goals that summarize the global challenges and priority areas facing the world. The purpose of the goals is to end poverty, protect human rights, promote equality and combat climate change.

Concordia Maritime sees the goals as a shared commitment that requires cooperation between governments, companies and society at large. We fully support the 17 goals and believe that they have the potential to contribute to more sustainable development – both for society at large and individual companies and businesses.

Concordia Maritime’s operations have a direct and indirect impact on several of the 17 goals. In many ways, seaborne transport constitutes the foundation for modern society. It enables production, mobility and growth – and also contributes to reduced poverty. At the same time, today’s transport is associated with negative effects such as carbon dioxide emissions and air pollution.

Through our sustainability efforts, we work to make a positive impact on the world around us from an environmental, social and economic perspective. We have chosen to focus on goals 7, 8, 9, 13, 14 and 17, which are the ones where we can have the greatest positive impact through our operations and sustainability work.
