Concordia plays it cool on new builds

Concordia Maritime has played down reports suggesting it is poised to undertake a major programme. Lars Carlsson, group president, was quoted by local newspaper Dagens Industri as saying: “We are going to order new tankers within six months and I think it is going to be many.” The company's recent new buildings, the renowned Stena V-Max VLCCs Stena Vision and Stena Victory, are on three-year charters to Sun Oil. “We just want a start. We think the reason for the whole misfortune of the tanker industry is that ship owners will order on pure speculation,” Mr Carlsson said. Concordia has already demonstrated its commitment to safety and the environment with the Stena V-Max VLCCs.
